This page explains what this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. I've tried to keep it short and plain. If anything's unclear, email me at hello@themarathons.com.
This site is run by The Marathons, Inc. in Coos Bay, Oregon. When I say "I" or "me," that's Chris Castleman, the owner.
What I collect, and why
When you send me a question. Your name, your business or organization if you give it, your email or phone number, and your question. I use them to answer you, and to remember our conversation if you book later.
When you sign up for the newsletter. Your email address, and when you signed up and confirmed. I use it only to send you the newsletter. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and it works with one click.
When you book a consultation. Booking happens through Calendly, and payment through Stripe, inside Calendly. I receive your name, email, the time you picked, your answers to the booking questions, and whether you've paid. I never see your card number.
When you make a share link. If you type your name and business into "Know someone who's stretched thin?", I save them so the link can greet your friend by name. I also count how many times your link is opened, and whether it led to a question or a booking, so I can thank you.
How you found this site. If you arrived from an ad, a postcard or a shared link, I note which one, and when you first and last visited. This tells me which outreach is working. It isn't used to follow you anywhere else.
Cookies
This site uses a few small cookies of its own. None are for advertising, and none are shared with ad networks.
| Cookie | What it's for | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
hm_attr | How you found the site (the ad, link or campaign), first and last visit | 90 days |
hm_seg | Which version of the page you picked: business, nonprofit or individual | 90 days |
hm_promo | A promo code you arrived with, so it's there when you book | 90 days |
hm_ref | The share link you arrived from, so the page can say who sent it | 90 days |
hm_ref_seen | So a share link's visit is counted once, not every time you come back | 1 year |
The booking calendar comes from Calendly, and it only loads when you scroll to it. Calendly may set its own cookies, including some that help it understand how people use its calendar and some for its marketing. Calendly's privacy notice explains them and how to turn them off. If you'd rather not load Calendly at all, ask me for a time with the "Questions first?" form instead.
Cloudflare
Two Cloudflare services help run this site:
- Turnstile checks that a form was sent by a person, not a spam bot. To do that, Cloudflare looks at signals from your browser and your IP address. Cloudflare's privacy policy covers it.
- Web Analytics counts page views so I can see which pages are useful. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across other sites.
The demos on this page
The examples you can try on the home page, like the review reply, run in your browser. What you type isn't sent anywhere or saved.
A.I. and your information
I use A.I. tools to help prepare for consultations and to write your plan afterward. When I do, I use paid business plans whose terms say they don't train on what I type, and I leave out anything you've asked me to keep private.
Who else handles your information
I don't sell your information, and I don't share it with anyone who would use it for their own marketing. A few companies handle it on my behalf to run the site:
- Render hosts the website.
- Supabase stores the database.
- Cloudflare runs the spam check, page-view counts and domain name.
- Resend sends the emails.
- Calendly and Stripe handle booking and payment.
How long I keep it
Questions and booking details stay as long as they're useful for working together, and I delete them if you ask. Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe. The cookies expire on their own, on the schedule above.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any issue.
- Ask what I have about you, or ask me to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@themarathons.com. I'll reply in less than 24 hours, and take care of it within 30 days.
- Clear or block cookies in your browser. The site still works; it just won't remember your choices.
This site isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If I change how I handle your information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
